Magnum Somnium Red – Vin de France

51,00

SOMNIUM is a local partnership between Suffrène and Christian PIERONI, painter, sculptor and illustrator. For the 2019 vintage, we wanted to create a wine that would stand out from the crowd, composed of Mourvèdre and Carignan which undergo carbonic maceration vinification.

Description

MAGNUM SOMNIUM Red Millésime 2019 – Vin de France

Grape varieties : Mourvèdre 90 % and Carignan 10 %

Plots : Mourvèdre from the Les Lauves isolated plot of vines; the Les Tordues plot & Carignan du Clos, a plot situated behind the winery on the bottom of the slopes.

Soil : Vineyards planted on the deep soil of the Calco-magnesium soil family Our soils lie on a limestone geological bedrock from the secondary era also referred to as Mesozoic, a geological period of the Cretaceous, Upper Cretaceous subdivision, Santonian stage (-84 to -86 million years ago).

Growing practices : Currently undergoing conversion to Organic Agriculture (the first official organic harvest will be 2021), the vineyard has been managed using growing practices that respect official organic specifications for more than 10 years. We are engaged in a process to reduce the use of phytosanitary products. To do this, treatments are carried out at night, and we adapt our work in the vineyard to the level of disease threat, the vine’s receptivity stage and the weather conditions. Our soils are not ploughed from October to March. From March onwards, the strips of earth between the foot of each vine are worked using hoeing tools, complemented by a surface ploughing of the space between the rows. Our vines are Gobelet-trained and we have a few trellised plots.

Harvesting : Carried out by hand

Vinification :

• • Vatting of whole bunches of grapes in a concrete tank.
• 10 days carbonic maceration.
• Over these 10 days, daily control of the density of the juice.
• • Devatting at density 1000.
• Pressing of the whole bunches of grapes
• • Obtaining a wine with sugar (density 1060).
• 15 days alcoholic fermentation.
• Racking after one week to remove thick/gross lees

Élevage 4 months’ ageing in stainless-steel vat
Serve at around 15-16°C

Tasting notes : Deep fresh nose with hints of spices and red berries. On the palate, we find the typical character of the Mourvèdre with notes of spices. Very fruit-forward with supple tannins and a fresh, appetising palate, this wine is a fine expression of the Mourvèdre.
